What operating systems can the WinTV Impact VCB PCI card be installed under?

The WinTV PCI boards will function on Windows95, Windows98, Windows ME, WindowsNT 4.0 (service pack 3 or higher), Windows 2000, and Windows XP systems.

3rd party Developers have also written WinTV-pci drivers for both LINUX, and the BeOS. These drivers, information, and their support may be found on their respective websites.

    System Requirements

A Pentium 90Mhz or faster is recommended, as well as a motherboard with an INTEL PCI controller chipset for optimum performance. Also, a VGA card that fully supports all aspects of Direct Draw would be required.

Connecting a SATELLITE / DSS / CABLE BOX to WinTV

You must set the WinTV to the recommended channel (usually channel 3) and then control channels with the Satellite receiver / Cable Box. If your satellite receiver / Cable Box has a composite output, it is recommended to connect it to the WinTV's Composite input instead. The clarity of the picture will be better this way. WinTV would then be set to the composite source, Either way, the Satellite receiver / Cable Box will still control the channels.

    Causes for System Lockups

If the WinTV application or system is locking up when running WinTV, it may be related to the PCI chipset of the motherboard or the graphics chipset in the system. Setting the Primary application (start/programs/Hauppauge WinTV/Primary) to “DIB DRAW” mode will most likely eliminate this issue.  If the problem persists, it may be also related to a resource allocation problem, so moving the WinTV card to a different PCI slot(s) in the system is recommended.

    Black Screen in WinTV

If you experience a black screen, but hear audio when running the WinTV software, try setting the Primary application (start/programs/Hauppauge WinTV/Primary) to “DIB DRAW” mode, and re-open WinTV to correct the problem.

If the problem continues, updating the VGA drivers for the graphics chipset in the system is recommended.

"Data invalid" error when trying to install drivers

If you are receiving this error under WindowsXP, please refer to this document: Data invalid WinXP

If you are receiving this error under Windows2000, please refer to this document: Data invalid Win2000

Setting up channels for Broadcast TV and External inputs

To Scan for TV channels in the Channel Configuration (Not applicable for Impact VCB), Click on Autoscan. This will open up another dialog box called Tuner Scanning Setup. Set the Tuning mode to Channels by Country, select the Broadcast / Cable setting that fits your input. Make sure that the Video Format is set to NTSC M and then make sure that the country is set to USA. then click on Start to begin the scan.

To Add a Composite channel / External input in the Channel Configuration, click on...

Add - Composite and choose a Channel Number, Channel Name and make sure that the Video Format is set correctly. NTSC for USA). Then click on add. Highlight the channel and click on OK to close the window. You should then be able to see that channel and your RCA input.

I want to save my channel library when I reinstall the software

To save your channel library, go to START / RUN, type REGEDIT at the command line and click OK. This will open your REGISTRY EDITOR. Here, you will want to double-click HKEY _LOCAL_MACHINE, then SOFTWARE, then HAUPPAUGE, and finally, highlight CHANNELS by single-clicking on it. With the CHANNELS folder high-lit, go to the REGISTRY menu and select EXPORT REGISTRY FILE... Name the file something you will remember and save it to a floppy for safe keeping. When you need to reload your channels, just open the REGISTRY EDITOR and select the REGISTRY MENU, then IMPORT REGISTRY FILE... Then just select the file you've saved and click OPEN. You will receive a message stating that the entry has been successfully added. Your channels should now be loaded back into your WinTV programs.

    Garbled video image when recording

Setting the Primary application (start/programs/Hauppauge WinTV/Primary) to “DIB DRAW” mode should address this issue.

“Failed to Create TV Window” error when attempting to run WinTV2000

This error will typically indicate that there was a problem during the driver or software installation. It would be recommended to clear out the WinTV files from the system, and reinstall using the latest updates.
